Got an overloaded kitchen cabinet with dog supplies? Get organized!
Green living and budget-friendly ways to organize your dog's kitchen cabinet or drawer
In every pet owner’s home, there’s a dresser drawer, a kitchen cabinet section, a shelf or a bin full of dog supplies. Sometimes, they’re strewn all over the place, and dog owners need to find a more systematic way to keep track of when new dog supplies are needed and when they’re taking up too much space. It’s easy enough to buy more supplies to make the dog inventory more structured, but what about recycling items that are already in your home?
Here are five ideas to get your kitchen cabinets organized with dog supplies that you may already have in your home.

1. Reuse three-wick candle containers
Once the wick is burned down, the only other way to enjoy the rest of the candle wax is with a candle wax burner. And when the wax is melted or no longer has an aroma (essential oils can extend this), then it’s time to wash the glass container out and toss it in a recycle bin — or not. Pet owners with small dogs may have a zillion individual bags of dog treats. Instead of trying to find ways to prop up all of these plastic bags, pour these small treats into a freshly washed three-wick glass candle container. (Hopefully, you kept the candle lid.) Make this the “dog treat jar.” If you’re feeling creative, you can create a new label with your dog’s name or other photo to cover the candle label.

As an Amazon affiliate, I earn a percentage from purchases with my referral links. I know some consumers are choosing to boycott Amazon for its DEI removal. However, after thinking about this thoroughly, I choose to continue promoting intriguing products from small businesses, women-owned businesses and (specifically) Black-owned businesses who still feature their items on Amazon. All five of my Substack publications now include a MINIMUM of one product sold by a Black-owned business. (I have visited the seller’s official site, not just the Amazon Black-owned logo, to verify this.) If you still choose to boycott, I 100% respect that decision.

2. Reuse prescription bottles
Whether it’s a prescription medication or vitamins, pharmacies and retailers don’t wait for you to bring your old container back for a refill. So, this leaves you with a collection of vitamin and prescription bottles that will usually end up in a recycle bin (or trash can). But your dog has boxed prescription heartworm medication and flea and tick tubes. Instead of keeping a bunch of individual boxes in your kitchen cabinet, use old prescription bottles, which take up less space. Make sure to label them so you don’t forget which is which.
